Responsibilities:

  • Lead the AI and Level Strike Teams resulting in improved workflows and better communication across all departments

  • Owned several levels from concept to ship including the final boss

  • Created AI and Level pipelines after collaborating with multiple departments

  • Developed a variety of content including AI, missions, objectives, and bosses with the iteration process.

Out of the Blue

Summary:

Out of the Blue is the first mission where the player gets to use the Iron Man suit after the tutorial. This mission needed to be finished quickly as it would be featured in an announcement trailer, in a playable demo on the PSN store, and playable at conferences. In additional to several narrative beats this mission needed to be filled with superhero moments and reinforce newly learned abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Owned the level from an alpha to ship to make sure it was completed in time

  • Collaborated with other departments to bring content to a shippable state

  • Implemented an epic ending sequence that involved chasing the jet, dodging debris, and saving Pepper

  • Tuned the encounters to provide better pacing and flow through the level

  • Worked with engineering and VFX on creating the sense of movement despite the aircraft being stationary

  • Animated the different aircraft sequences so that the animation team could work on more complex animations

By changing the speed and direction of the wind we provide the sensation of movement even though the jet is stationary.

Final Boss Fight

Summary:

The final boss fight was the showdown between Iron Man and the true villain of the game, Gunsmith. We didn’t know what form Gunsmith was going to take but we knew it needed to be as epic as possible and had to be different from the Ghost boss battle. Due to narrative and scope constraints this mission needed to take place at Malibu. Unlike all other missions we also had to introduce a new suit that the player was forced to use, the Mark 1.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the level and boss fight from concept to ship

  • Created several prototypes to solidify direction of the boss fight

  • Heavily iterated on the gameplay and story with the narrative department to find the best ways to accomplish our goals

  • Collaborated with animation, engineering, audio, VFX, and concept to fulfill the content needs of the level
